Right now, I'm watching Muay Thai Giant, with Nathan Jones. Hilarious action martial arts romp. Nathan Jones plays the title character, who after getting mugged, makes friends with a couple of younger girls. After destroying their mom's restaurant, he vows to do whatever it takes to rebuild it, even learning Muay Thai Kickboxing. The fight scene with the cooking ingredients alone is particularly note-worthy, with a bad-ass two target scissor kick and a guy getting shot in the leg to prove a point the major highlights. www.imdb.com/title/tt1251761/ The Somtum is the dish that Jones eats (which is insanely hot), that causes him to go on a rampage and destroy the restaurant.

Kung Fu Hustle
AMAZING MOVIE! Granted it is Chinese and you have to watch it in subtitles - which many people complain about but I don't mind. It's about a slum community in a 1920s town in China. A young man is all talk but no walk. He wants to join the "Ax Gang" because they own the town and he doesn't want to be a pushover anymore. They try to make a fuss and impersonate the Ax Gang Lord in the slum and the Landlady (who is hilarious!) comes down and teaches them a lesson, kung fu wise. The landlady turns out to be one of four kung fu masters in the area and the Ax Gang offer the young man a deal to kill them all and he will be initiated into the gang. There is a small love story between the young man and a girl who sells ice-cream which is cute; and then there is the part where you find out that he is himself a kung fu genius!
The movie is light-hearted and fun. It's supposed to be funny. Not your typical Jackie Chan movie. ;p
Check it out.

The other movie that the kid from Kung-Fu Hustle did was Shaolin Soccer. Lots of wire work, but absolutely amazing. Really seems to be aimed at younger kids, but I enjoyed the hell out of it.

Stephen Chow is the guy who did those films. While I disagree that they are targeted at younger audiences I can see why you might think that being as the films are fairly innocent (something that American audiences tend to grade films down for). I want to make a solid suggestion for any of you that enjoyed those movies; Korean film "The Good, The Bad, The Weird." It's an amazing western film made in Korea that's also a period piece and a comedy; not over-reaching at all. One of my favorite foreign films.
Here's some other films that I think many people missed out on some older than others but all of them are four star films in my book (at least three and a half): The House of Yes The Lost Skeleton of Cadavera Kitchen Stories Touching the Void Ip Man Black Dynamite Boiler Room The Hospital The Art of the Steal The Damned United Straight Time A Prophet AND ONE REAL CLASSIC: Charley Varrick

I just have to throw Ricky-Oh (a.k.a. The Story of Ricky) out there. Sure, it's violent as hell, and parts of it make zero sense whatsoever, but I still haven't had as much fun watching a movie as I did with that one.
